Black Women's Liberatory Leadership (BWLL) Praxis
Black Women’s Liberatory Leadershipå (BWLL) Praxis is a psychologically grounded, equity-centered approach to leadership that draws on the lived experiences, historical insight, and visionary strategies of Black women. Rooted in the principles of refusal and recovery—developed in Black Women at Work—this praxis redefines leadership as the ongoing practice of rejecting dehumanization and reclaiming wholeness in the face of oppressive systems. It is not simply about rising within institutions but about transforming how we lead ourselves and others through complexity, disruption, and change.
This praxis emerges from the truth that Black women have long led in conditions not designed for their thriving—navigating injustice, carrying institutional burdens, and simultaneously creating pockets of possibility. From these lived realities, BWLL offers a powerful roadmap for anyone leading in precarious times: leaders who are navigating uncertainty, who carry multiple identities, and who are called to lead with bold strategy, grounded in deep humanity, and wellness as a priority.
